Additional Data
Usually, the information, which is used to distinguish the given classes, is extracted from your spectra.
Relevant spectral locations are found automatically and are subsequently used for training the system and for
classifying new spectra
of unknown samples.
However, you may supplement your spectra with additional information which will be utilized by the classification system as well, possibly
improving classification performance. For example, if you are analyzing chemicals you could add further measured properties of the substances.
When working with biological samples, you might supply data on cultivation conditions or physiological properties. In a medical study, a set of
clinical data of the study participants who have provided the samples for the spectra might facilitate classification significantly.
In any case, if you decide to use additional information for training the classification system, you need to ensure availability of the same
information for all future practical applications of the system to unknown data.
The software PATTERN EXPERT airspect
allows you to use additional information both in the form of numerical and of verbal data.
